Remembering ……..
La Sierra July 4th. Someone threw a cherry bomb through the roof of the tent. We did at least two, perhaps three performances. Louis had his first gig as drummer with the band. Louis also had his last gig with the band. He next mastered the gorilla suit.
In La Sierra a large crowd arrived to stand in a dusty field next to the tent to view the fireworks display. We all knew when the show was over because a police helicopter flew overhead sweeping the couple thousand people with its search light as it intoned, ” the show is over. Please return to your homes. The show is over. Return to your homes.”
It took us til almost dawn to pack the gear back to the house. Jill and I slept in the closet next to Michael and Vickie’s water bed. It had a window because I remember seeing the dawn break as I had an asthma attack.
The La Sierra engagement encouraged me to hitch hike to Santa Barbara in search of a gig. That burg seemed to offer both more and less than La Sierra.
That turned out to be an accurate assessment.
