A Circus is Born

As the story was told to me:

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away (University of California, Riverside ‘UCR’), Alan M., who was student body president or some such thing, said to Michael M. “I’d like to bring a circus to campus”.   Michael replied “You want a circus?  I’ll make you a circus”.

Michael contacted entertainers from amongst his Renaissance Faire acquaintances, musicians from the UCR quad, a “B&G” team — also from the quad.  “B&G” stands for “Buildings and Grounds”, or “Boogeys and Geeks”, depending on mood.  But I assure you, no actual chickens lost their heads to entertain the masses.

An impressively large tent was rented, a gorilla suit was sewn, and many amazing young performers journeyed from Los Angeles to Riverside to join with talented crazies from UCR.  They all rehearsed, and then performed for student and community masses.  There were several performances over the course of a week, as well as many parties and games of Clench a Wench in the tent at night.  Friendships were formed that have lasted over forty years.

Me?  I was mostly a member of B&G, but did perform as Bonzo, the amazing gorilla on occasion.   Now, I turn the story telling over to others….. don’t worry about precise sequence or any of those silly details we, for various reasons, can’t remember.  Just toss in bits and pieces as you wish. ~ With much love, Laura
